Behind The Scenes with the Honorees: Dana Davis

In anticipation for the May 2 inaugural ISAIC (Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center,) Honors Event, one name stands out in the realm of transformative and sustainable fashion—Dana Davis, the VP of Sustainability, Product and Business Strategy for Mara Hoffman. As the Change Clothes, Change Lives Award takes center stage, Dana's journey becomes a beacon of inspiration, weaving together her passion for fashion with a commitment to sustainability.

From an early age, Dana knew she wanted to be in the world of fashion. "I always thought of fashion as a way to self-express and identify myself," she shares. Growing up in the tri-state area, surrounded by creative influences, and spending time in the city, Dana found inspiration that fueled her love for fashion as a form of self-expression. Her parents, both creative and fashionable individuals, further nurtured her natural inclination towards the world of style and design.

Entering the industry with dreams and aspirations, Dana's path unfolded over the years. "I knew that fashion was not just singular; there are many different things you can do within this space," she explains. While her creative instincts drew her to the world of design, it was the vastness of possibilities within the fashion industry that captivated her.

Fast forward to 2015, a pivotal moment that would shape Dana's trajectory. It was a turning point when Mara, the visionary force behind the brand, visited Dana. The conversation marked an "aha moment" and a challenge—an opportunity for a paradigm shift. The decision was clear: shift business practices or shut it down. This juncture set the stage for Dana to step into a leadership role, steering Mara Hoffman toward a sustainable future.

A significant milestone in Dana's journey unfolded in 2023. She led the charge in bringing Circe, a groundbreaking innovation to market. This technology, derived from a hydrothermal process, separated poly-cotton blended textiles, creating new fibers and propelling Mara Hoffman towards a responsible material portfolio.

Reflecting on her journey, Dana emphasizes the importance of a collaborative approach within the sustainable fashion community. "Building a network community within sustainable fashion is probably one of the most important things," she notes. This collaboration, coupled with a commitment to transformative change, has been instrumental in navigating the unknowns of the industry.

As Dana envisions the impact of being recognized at the ISAIC Honors Event, she sees it as a platform to inspire and share Mara Hoffman's story. The recognition is not just a personal achievement but an opportunity to advocate for positive change within the industry. She explains: “I see it as an opportunity to tell the story of Mara Hoffman, to inspire other brands, and to let them know that no matter where you are on your journey, that there’s always work that can be done.” Dana's narrative transcends awards; it is a testament to the fusion of a lifelong passion for fashion with a determined commitment to sustainability.
